In this book, I would like to share some of the adventures I have had with the Holy Spirit during my life. I am being led by Him in the writing of this book which itself has been an adventure.
John is a retired Consultant Psychiatrist who has practiced in India, Dundee, Scotland, Ipswich, England, and is based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia with over 40 years of experience. In this book, he tries to integrate the psychological and spiritual dimensions of the workings of our mind.

I am greatly encouraged by this ‘easy to read’ book – ‘ My Adventures With The Holy Spirit’. The overriding theme being ‘The ( Unseen) Hand of God’ in the journey of our lives bringing us out of dangers, failings, even seasons of trials we don’t understand at times, but He is there protecting and delivering us and bringing us to our purpose which Jesus designed us for.
It was a great encouragement to read the many stories and adventures that Dr. John Mathai faced in his life’s journey. It spurs me on to TRUST God in all seasons of life. Thank you to John for his insightful book.

The title of this book tells us that the author is a man of strong faith and hope. Through the sharing of his stories of threat, tragedy and opportunity, Dr Mathai provides the catalyst for me to reflect on my own significant life events. I did close this book at times, to consider if, or to what degree the Holy Spirit is active in my life. Some of the author’s accounts may be seen as chance situations, but that is where I discovered Dr Mathai’s message. Spoiler: the Holy Spirit is present in all that happens in life. Each account is concise, descriptive and will likely invoke emotion and personal reflection. A simple book with a powerful message.

This is not a book for my bookshelf. It is a timeless reference book for daily life. I found the index to be one of the strengths of this book and it is clear the writer has a taken much effort to help readers find relevant information with ease. This body of work is about understandings of the self-aware and unaware drivers of human thoughts, feelings, actions and reactions. Topics are easy to read, to the point, and will either confirm wisdoms, or open eyes to new ones. I experienced delightful moments of my inner voice saying ‘yep, that’s me.’ Dr Mathai explains, with conviction, that we require a spiritual element to find our road to freedom. His understanding of scripture and his experience as a Psychiatrist are quite evident in this book. Don’t expect many references to scripture, expect words like love, belief, forgiveness, feelings, acceptance and faith. The concept of mind and spirit, is explained in concise form and provides guidance on a vast variety of life situations, challenges and opportunities. Not just a self help book, it offered enjoyable reading to satisfy my interest in human-nature and spirituality.
