We are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are His creation and created in His image. Adam was created in His image and likeness but through the Fall he lost His likeness. We too bear His image and now are being transformed into His likeness. This is a process so that one day we will be like Jesus when we see Him as He is. Now we only see dimly and so we only know Him dimly. The clearer our vision of Him, the greater our likeness to Him. To be like Him is to be like Him in His nature or character. This is what we all yearn to be but our flesh life continues to dictate our behaviour. What is the way out of this dilemma?
God has put His Spirit within us to help us to be like Him. We cannot be like Him by following rules or imitating certain behaviours. That is just an outward show. The real you is in you and is revealed in times of crisis. In these times, the outward show will collapse and the real you will come forth. It is like wearing make-up and the real you is revealed when the make-up is washed off. We can fool others most of the time but we cannot fool God. God has given us a solution, which is to submit to Him and He will do the rest. Our will must submit to His will.
God commands us to be filled with His Spirit and to walk by His Spirit. This means we have to die to our flesh to be free from its demands. We are then free to follow Him. In the Spirit we will walk in His likeness. He has given us His own Spirit who helps us in our time of need. He will help us in our weakness and make us strong. Nothing is impossible for Him, so that the worst sinner can be transformed by His Spirit. All we have to do now is to be filled and overflow with His Spirit, by praying much in tongues. He will then flow through us and the more we walk in this way, the more we will be like Him.
